Brittany's Blog - It's a Doughnut Wall!

Brittany’s Blog

Earlier this week I came across a Cosmopolitan article describing the new hottest wedding trend, but it simply seems crazy to me.

According to an article written by Lyndsey Matthews on August 25 this trend is “blowing up right now” and obviously more delicious than the flower wall, a wedding trend from 2014.

So what is this must have wedding trend? A doughnut wall.

Oddly enough people have made it part of their wedding using it as a dessert table backdrop or hanging them on pin boards to just have as display. They are often paired with sayings such as “I doughnut know what I’d do without you” and the doughnuts have different icon patterns and colours for a unique display.

Now, I don’t know about you, but personally I don’t care to look at doughnuts on a display, I just want to eat them. And as Matthews wrote, the flower girls and ring bearers sometimes get to the lower treats before wedding guests can even see the display.

Now lastly on the topic of this doughnut wall, I hope they are kept inside and in the AC. The icing on those doughnuts will melt faster than the makeup on the bridesmaids on a scorching hot summer day.

Well, to each their own, but I’d rather eat one than just see them. Oh, by the way, we rent a doughnut wall now.

Happy end of summer! And good luck with back to school.

Carnival Days - Brittany's Blog

Hello Readers,

We have the perfect weather to celebrate the end of summer, so gather the family for one last day of fun. Host a party for that family member leaving for their first year of college or just because you want to see the family, extended and all, back together one last time before Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Earlier in the summer a family came in looking for everything they needed to host a carnival themed party and what better place to come than Mclean Sherwood?

Our carnival themed rentals:

Yellow and white tent. Perfect to add a little ‘flavour’ to your summer party with more fun than a simplistic white tent top.

Our abundance of food machines. We can provide you with the tools to make cotton candy, popcorn, or hotdogs. Rent out the ice-cream bar for an adorable little display and take a look at our several different drink dispensers including our beverage fountains and coffee urns. Make serving food fun and pleasurable.

And of course, my personal favourite, our rentable party games. Opt in for the dunk tank, horse shoes, volleyball or even our kids fishing pond. You’ll have a day full of fun for the whole family.

Enjoy the final days of summer and the back-to-school shopping to come.

Brittany's Blog - My Brother Is Engaged!

Brittany’s Blog

My brother is engaged! It’s official, he’s getting married to a lovely young women sometime in 2017. Super excited! Although no date is decided upon, we still have many women brainstorming for the engagement party, bridal showers and of course the wedding itself.

The bride and groom are both musically inclined, so I’m thinking maybe a music themed engagement party.

Sheet music for decor, old records as table numbers, white linens with black accents, and instruments on display.

He plays trumpet and she plays clarinet, but they both have talent with other instruments. Table seating could be displayed on the keys of an old piano and everything would be accented with music notes and symbols.

Of course none of the decisions are really mine, but I can always think up ideas.

Congratulations Mitchell and Rachel; best wishes in all of the planning and the many years to come!

Cool Ideas for a Hot Summer

Cool Ideas for a Hot Summer

It’s summer and it’s hot. The air conditioning is cranked, shorts and tank tops have been pulled out and pools are finally open.

Here’s a few things to keep in mind this summer.

1. There is no need to buy sunscreen higher than SPF 30, because it blocks out 97% of UVB rays. No matter the SPF, no sunscreen blocks 100%, so you’ll just be wasting your money.
2. On really hot days run your wrists under cool or cold water for about 30 seconds. This helps cool your blood and cool your body temperature.
3. Turning off unnecessary electronics can help keep the house cool. Electronics give off heat, even when on but not in use.
4. Drink water. It is so easy to become dehydrated during the dog days of summer, so make sure you always have water on hand.
5. Lastly, wear loose fitting and breathable clothing. Avoid cotton and denim, because they can trap the heat.
What do you do to stay cool and enjoy the summer months?

Summer is Hot and so is Vintage!

Summer is Hot and so is Vintage!

Brittany’s Blog

Hello, hello! I know it has been a while since a blog has been posted, but now that I am out of exams and settled into my summer job I hope to post more frequently.

It is summer! Finally the sun is shining and the warm weather has come. Time to pull out those packed away shorts and swimsuits for what will hopefully be a beautiful season.

I recently received an invitation in the mail to a summer wedding for a family friend, so why don’t we talk summer wedding trends.

Vintage has been on the rise for some time now, and I don’t think it will be going anywhere anytime soon. Mismatched dishes, wildflowers and pastel colours are all popular this wedding season. Of course, in the summer outdoor weddings are often preferred, but planning the party in a barn is a popular choice with the vintage look. Wine barrels, lace, earth tones, and wildflowers are all something to look at when planning a vintage themed wedding.

With our recent partnership with Vintage Rentals and the lovely Vicky, I came to the realization that chalkboard signs are highly favoured for both the ceremony and reception. Distressed wood doors with chalkboards replacing the windows or small picture frames on stands with adorable little messages, like “ ‘You can dance!’ Love Wine.” Even chalkboard table numbers are a great addition to a vintage style wedding.

Enjoy your summer and I hope this wedding season holds beautiful weather for all you happy couples.

Vintage Vintage Vintage!

Vintage, harvest, vintage chic, rustic chic, antique…whatever you want to call it, it’s here at McLean Sherwood Event Rental! Our new line of one of a kind furniture pieces, classic looking china and vintage decor items are really taking off. Check out pictures of all the pieces under the VINTAGE category of our RENTALS section.

Picture your guests seated at dark pine harvest tables set with the fine Royal Albert china from years gone by. Or white benches and deck chairs in place for the ceremony under the old oak tree. Wine barrels are used as cruiser tables surrounding the circa 1890’s Saloon Bar. An antique writing desk is used for signing the marriage certificate and the chalkboard doors tell the guests where to sit. Unique items for a unique setting – that’s what vintage is all about!
