Easter Eggs

Happy Easter! Every year growing up the Easter bunny visited my house with chocolate eggs for my brothers and I. My mom decorates the house in spring colours and flowers. It really is a great time of year.

This year, to decorate the house with a little something extra, my mom and I made Easter eggs as a centre piece for the table. We blew eggs. I know that sounds a little funny, but this technique allows you to keep the eggs for years as long as they are wrapped and stored carefully.

To blow an egg, take a nail and put a small hole in both the top and the bottom of the egg. Use the nail or a toothpick to break up the yolk inside the egg to make it easier to blow it out. Hold the egg over a bowl and blow into the hole you have made on the bottom of the egg. It takes a bit of work to blow the yolk out, but it is worth it. Once you have blown the yolk out fully, rinse the egg in lukewarm water and gently dry. You are now ready to decorate!

Decorating is really easy, especially if you have younger children, and there are so many different techniques. White vinegar, water, and food colouring is the easiest, and you can even draw on the egg with crayon first to make cool designs. You can decorate with stickers, glitter glue, spray paint, permanent marker, etc. A simple Easter activity for the family.

If you want more detailed instructions on how to blow and decorate eggs, YouTube has a variety of tutorial videos to use as a guideline. Have a happy Easter!
